Stupak's Claim

“The Right Way – All Hail Bart Stupak”

by Matthew Schoech

Bart Stupak imagines himself as a great champion of the downtrodden.  King Leonidas-like he imagines his modern day Spartan democrats vanquishing the evils of insurance-less masses.

Bart Stupak believes that only government can save everyone from that terrible fate of not having a right to health insurance which he assumes only government can provide.  What he missed in constitutional studies class is that no one has such a right.  If one assumes such a right it endorses the notion that some individuals have a right to someone else’s life and property. This is totally contradictory to the principles of liberty.   Stupak has demonstrated that he does not understand what values and principles are, or worse, treachery is now a principle.

Bart Stupak is a consummate politician.  It should not have been any surprise that he so easily sold out his vote on health care.  After all, didn’t he say that is exactly what he would do back in 2009 at one of his town hall meetings.  Bart wraps himself in the heroic pose of giving healthcare to the poor impoverished masses then throws abortion protection under the bus, all this done in the name of standing on those same nonexistent values and principles.

Modern day Bart in reality is more like the deformed hunchbacked Ephialtes who betrayed the 300 Spartans at the battle of Thermopylae.  Betrayed King Leonidas would today say of Bart Stupak,  “You there, Stupak, May you live forever.”

And I hope he does.  In shame.
