Snyder Is Running Under WHAT Party Banner??

Yay..  and..  yawn.. its official..  A guy with a wish list and some pocket change wants to take advantage of a no win situation for Democrats in the upcoming Michigan Governor’s race.  Spend a lot of money and assume the position of head monkey flag bearer for the state GOP.. Just Ducky.. According to the AP through Forbes:

Snyder said he wants to revitalize Michigan’s economy by drawing on his business background. Michigan’s unemployment rate has been highest in the nation for 26 of the last 27 months. It hit 15.2 percent in June.

What type of businesses would his background help?  Stem Cell research facilities harvesting dead babies for their product?  Businesses specializing in insurance for the newly accepted “gay worker wife plans?”

A relative newcomer to Michigan’s political scene, Snyder may have to mount an expensive campaign to promote his name and political platform. But being considered an outsider could help him. He said Tuesday he won’t accept political action committee money, but instead will rely on donations from supporters.

Supporters.. Family and friends? His personal banker? Gay lobby? Being an outsider (newcomer) he should stay clear this round..  Considering an earlier report by the Free Press:

He supports using human embryos to create stem cells for medical research. He favors government recognition of rights for gay and lesbian couples much like those accorded married couples. He opposed the ban on race and gender preferences approved by Michigan voters in 2006.

OK three out of three.. that-are-wrong. Why is he a Republican? Oh yeah, I noted in the first part that this is a no win for a Democrat.  He wants his bucket list complete perhaps?  His “biological clock is running,” and that baby needs to be born?! Who the heck knows..  But his positions run contrary to conservative and generally Republican stands, and this time, that might just matter… it better.

What the hell, I am going to throw my hat in too!  I mean I don’t have wide name recognition, have a failed business experience or two to draw upon, but wait.. oh yeah..  I don’t have oodles of cash to piss away like a born again adolescent buying a brand shiny new little red sports coupe. So I guess I’ll just kick back and bitch about stupid people who would put Jenny II with a Republican Doo in a position to maintain a “green” State that will STILL HAVE NO JOBS.

Yeah.. But hey he gave the Republicans $500 in 2005..  But..  On the other hand Dingell a Democrat, recieved $1000.00 from Snyder in 2006.  Hmm  Bet I know whom he voted for in the last presidential cycle… Can you say Spasibo Comrade? ..Nyet..?

Why is he in the Republican side of the race again?  Oh Right.. “bucket list.”

Speaking of which.. Any one have a spare parachute and feel like .. nah never mind, it ain’t gonna happen.

As one of the few, the brave, the members of the Republican Party in Ann Arbor – I received a personal call inviting me to attend the opening ceremony for Mr. Snyder’s campaign HQ. When I explained that I was not a fan of Mr. Snyder’s policy preferences and would not be in attendance, the caller sounded genuinely shocked.

Having just held my nose and voted for a squishy liberal republican last November, the last thing I would want to do now is support another one for our state governor’s race in 2010!

To be fair, I looked at his donations myself under Open Secrets, and his donating record isn’t as bad as you make it out to be. It isn’t good- he supports moderates- but it isn’t like he is a Democrat. And he most likely voted for McCain last election, not Emperor Obama.

Check out my blog- I’m going to post on this issue today and will link over to this blog too.

OK found the rest of the donations.. And even better, over the years a generous number of Republican Committee donations.. I do however note that after blowing through the 100K or so in the last 10-12 years.. (mostly on Republican causes..) it was 2008 General where a conspicuous absence of support for a candidate who would be his logical choice..

I would still put money on an “O” vote..

    So look at our choices;

Cox – cheated on his wife, same qualifications as Jenny G. Look how that worked out for us.

Hoekstra – Voted for tax cuts not balanced by spending cuts. Voted for an unfunded $50 billion/yr giveaway on the Medicare Part D. Voted to beat up on people down on their luck with the revision to the bankruptcy code. He’s a crony capitalist of the worst kind.

Bouchard and Land aren’t bad – and would be my first choice – but running at 10% in the polls means they’re not viable.

Snyder knows how to be fiscally conservative which is really what most people want – the social conservatism doesn’t ring well – I don’t want control of other people’s bedrooms, but I do want a government that runs well. Bloomberg did a good job in New York in a tougher set of circumstances. I hope Snyder can do something equivalent here.

I’ll also note that Engler made compromises with the MEA in the mid-1990s that led to the current huge deficits in the MPSERS that are crushing our schools because he couldn’t work the numbers.

Snyder has the smarts to avoid that kind of giveaway.

Same qualifications? He would have to be a card carrying socialist for that.

“Snyder has the smarts to avoid that kind of giveaway.” umm the worst thing Engler did was let Snyder build the MEA which gives away taxpayer dollars to favored “business leaders” including a padding of his own account in 2007.

Snyder will not sign a no new tax pledge. that is not fiscally conservative.

I would support Dillon over Snyder, because he is farther to the right. But in reality would likely sit on my hands for that choice and have a clean conscience.

As far as the ‘life’ issue is concerned. The voters made a decision 2 years ago. It can’t be reversed unless 2/3 of the house and the senate put it on the ballot for the people to vote on it again.

He has no impact on the ‘life’ issue in Michigan – for better or worse.

I voted against the stem cell amendment, but I’ll vote for Snyder to keep Hoekstra or Cox out of the governor’s mansion. Either of those two will be disastrous for Michigan.

If Dillon get’s through on the other side, I’ll back him over either Hoekstra or Cox, because his track record is better.
