I told you so.

The Mackinac center has the real numbers based on the analysis of spending which resulted in over $48 million that had been given to film makers last year in Michigan.  Out of $125 million in “qualified spending, roughly $65 millions was paid into Michigan economy.  Get it?  $48 Million paid to get $65 million spent here..

Thanks for your post about the Michigan Film Office and for the link to the Mackinac Center video about the annual report. I feel it’s time for the legislature to provide oversight and to sort out the claims made about effectiveness of the program.

The Michigan Auditor General is an arm of the legislature and has authority to do performance audits for state programs. To get an audit, just one legislator has to request it.

What do you think? Is there one or more out there willing to provide some program oversight?

Thanks again for the call out about the report and the link. I posted about it: http://westhorp.typepad.com/dailygrit/2009/03/mi-auditor-general-needs-to-do-performance-audit-of-michigan-film-office.html
