Again, let it be said that RATES WILL INCREASE if the blues have their way and passage of a non-competitive legislation being considered in Michigan’s legislature.
They have spent an estimated 15 MILLION that could have gone towards reducing the rates of their subscribers in advertising designed to convince the gullible voters in Michigan to pressure lawmakers to vote for passage of new law which will allow Blue cross to MAINTAIN their existing tax exemption (of approx 120 Million) and also have some of the perks the “for-Profit” insurers now enjoy.
These “perks” apparently include the ability to raise rates without review(as they must under the tax exempt status) decline coverage to many they now must, and create a new FOR PROFIT blues insurance network to sell other than health coverage. All the while maintaining tax preferred status. ..I would be curious how a “for Profit” enterprise would be developed.. Who gets stock?..
I am a blues subscriber. STOP WASTING MY MONEY. You signed on for the ride, you agreed to the terms which allow you to operate with the special status you now enjoy.
What might be better, is legislation that allows Multiple companies to operate under the same rules you do. THEN there would be fair competition. You would be BURIED in 5 years time.
