Michigan to Lose Congressional Seat

Michigan is about to become less important.

After each federal census, the 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are reapportioned among the states based on population. Because Michigan has lost population due to our poor economy, we are in danger of losing one or more of our current 15 house seats. Michigan is all but assured of losing one seat in Congress, the question has been whether there may be a larger loss.

According to a report by the National Conference of State Legislatures, the census numbers will show that Michigan will lose just one seat. Data indicates that seven other states; Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island will also lose seats. Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Florida, South Carolina and Georgia should increase their influence in Congress by adding districts.

Michigan’s negative growth has been mirrored by growth in some of these states due to census counting that includes illegals.  California’s illegal population did NOT increase its total as many might have seen as a foregone conclusion, but states such as Georgia, Pennsylvania, and AZ did however.
