In Michigan, we are fast becoming aware of what happens when the left pushes an agenda such as forced “green” standards. We lose jobs. Any of the big three automakers are evidence. And as fast as the words “bio tech” erupt from our “away blower in chief” Jennifer Granholm, we now find a firm which has received the favor of taxpayer largess to settle here (MPI Mattawan) is also in trouble, is laying off 300, (company says 200, but they had also reported 1800 workers, and not showing 1500 left? ) and given the economic climate will likely lose more.
Bottom line.. If GOVERNMENT touches or manages it, it WILL fail.
We have seen additional interference as with the bail out of “irresponsible” Wall Street institutions, in reality a problem created by government exacerbated by greed, and a general disregard for taxpayers by both politicians and major players in those institutions as well. The solution as presented for the original taxpayer money staked has already changed a couple of times, but hey what the heck, its only the sweat off our backs..
Now consider the possibly largest populist movement in the last century, the push for universal health care in some form or another. The candidates in this election had differing plans, but the most subversive to liberty and freedom of thought, speech etc., is the Obama plan:
“Make employer contributions more fair by requiring large employers that do not offer coverage or make a meaningful contribution to the cost of quality health coverage for their employees to contribute a percentage of payroll toward the costs of their employees’ health care.”
In other words REQUIRE (or face PENALTIES) large employers to meet GOVERNMENT standards of insurance for the serfs the government has merely “loaned” to the companies. Further:
Barack Obama will pay for his $50 – $65 billion health care reform effort by rolling back the Bush tax cuts for Americans earning more than $250,000 per year and retaining the estate tax at its 2009 level.
And we know how THAT number though still used, has been lowered as time passed. Some estimates suggest it will actually affect those who make $40,000 or more. But the bottom line is ANY costs borne by those who create jobs or drive investment will be passed on by lower employment numbers, and also less financial incentive to drive innovation. We enter the dark ages.
The GOOD NEWS.. Black Friday was a …well not a complete failure anyhow. WALMART WMT seems to be immune from the gloom and doom attitude of shoppers this year and even posted a small gain of 3%.
But wait.. Oh yeah.. Large business. Further.. a large business that for the most part has a great number of employees which may fall under the new rules which are sure to pass with a majority in both houses by FAR LEFT liberal politicians, and a Straight up socialist (don’t let the “moderate” appointments fool you) who will deliver the government heat treatment.
Walmart.. Get bigger as fast as you can, and you might as well get your tin cup handy as well. In a year or two, the benevolent government help your employees will be receiving will most certainly have you begging for an extension of life from the likes of Schumer, Dodd, Pelosi et al..
