Governor, That's an Oak…

Today, the Mackinac Center’s Michael D. LaFaive Comments on what is typical content of a governors (or head of state) “State of the State” at the think-tank’s website, and what might be better said if he were to make the “state of the State” speech this evening. There is something to be said for the truth.

Governor Granholm’s speech tonight will undoubtedly have a level of fluff, and perhaps a spoonful of distraction designed to make us look the other way while she carefully avoids responsibility for what ails the state. Typical of a politician, she will attempt to shed the ownership of the ills, and the economic damage which her actions and political dogma has brought to Michigan.

Granholm could do wonders for breathing new life into this great state by making the following statement: “I have failed, and I will follow the suggestions laid out by people who have a better handle on how economics truly work.” If Governor Granholm said these words, and laid out a plan to implement a majority of the recommendations by the Mackinac Center, she would have an incredible amount of support, from places never before seen.

But she has to admit it. She has to see what is going on first. It is often said that addiction can destroy families. And as we know, career politicians need their “fix” of taxpayer dollars. Perhaps the twelve step process of “Taxaholics Anonymous” needs to begin for her, and her “addicted” cronies in the legislature, before this great big car of ours hits that tree.
