One Man With Courage Is A Majority

Thomas Jefferson.

He certainly had some gems. In fact I’ll bet any one of these following could be applied today:

  • “How much pain they have cost us, the evils which have never happened.”
  • “I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.”
  • “I do not take a single newspaper, nor read one a month, and I feel myself infinitely the happier for it.”
  • “A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.”
  • “All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.”
  • “An injured friend is the bitterest of foes.”

Jefferson was indeed a fine wordsmith, and became our third president.

I will be in the Traverse City, Michigan Cherry Royale parade today as Thomas Jefferson.  Celebrating the document which holds this country to what it is.

A Republic

And I will feel honored to be able to do so.
