Same qualifications? He would have to be a card carrying socialist for that.

"Snyder has the smarts to avoid that kind of giveaway." umm the worst thing Engler did was let Snyder build the MEA which gives away taxpayer dollars to favored "business leaders" including a padding of his own account in 2007.

Snyder will not sign a no new tax pledge. that is not fiscally conservative.

I would support Dillon over Snyder, because he is farther to the right. But in reality would likely sit on my hands for that choice and have a clean conscience.

As far as the 'life' issue is concerned. The voters made a decision 2 years ago. It can't be reversed unless 2/3 of the house and the senate put it on the ballot for the people to vote on it again.

He has no impact on the 'life' issue in Michigan - for better or worse.

I voted against the stem cell amendment, but I'll vote for Snyder to keep Hoekstra or Cox out of the governor's mansion. Either of those two will be disastrous for Michigan.

If Dillon get's through on the other side, I'll back him over either Hoekstra or Cox, because his track record is better.

So look at our choices;

Cox - cheated on his wife, same qualifications as Jenny G. Look how that worked out for us.

Hoekstra - Voted for tax cuts not balanced by spending cuts. Voted for an unfunded $50 billion/yr giveaway on the Medicare Part D. Voted to beat up on people down on their luck with the revision to the bankruptcy code. He's a crony capitalist of the worst kind.

Bouchard and Land aren't bad - and would be my first choice - but running at 10% in the polls means they're not viable.

Snyder knows how to be fiscally conservative which is really what most people want - the social conservatism doesn't ring well - I don't want control of other people's bedrooms, but I do want a government that runs well. Bloomberg did a good job in New York in a tougher set of circumstances. I hope Snyder can do something equivalent here.

I'll also note that Engler made compromises with the MEA in the mid-1990s that led to the current huge deficits in the MPSERS that are crushing our schools because he couldn't work the numbers.

OK found the rest of the donations.. And even better, over the years a generous number of Republican Committee donations.. I do however note that after blowing through the 100K or so in the last 10-12 years.. (mostly on Republican causes..) it was 2008 General where a conspicuous absence of support for a candidate who would be his logical choice..

I would still put money on an "O" vote..

To be fair, I looked at his donations myself under Open Secrets, and his donating record isn't as bad as you make it out to be. It isn't good- he supports moderates- but it isn't like he is a Democrat. And he most likely voted for McCain last election, not Emperor Obama.

Check out my blog- I'm going to post on this issue today and will link over to this blog too.

As one of the few, the brave, the members of the Republican Party in Ann Arbor - I received a personal call inviting me to attend the opening ceremony for Mr. Snyder's campaign HQ. When I explained that I was not a fan of Mr. Snyder's policy preferences and would not be in attendance, the caller sounded genuinely shocked.

Having just held my nose and voted for a squishy liberal republican last November, the last thing I would want to do now is support another one for our state governor's race in 2010!
